Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB)

The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) is one of the key educational authorities responsible for conducting major school-level examinations and assessment activities in the state of Karnataka. The organisation was originally established in 1966 as the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board and was renamed the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board in 2022 as part of the restructuring of the state’s examination and assessment system.

KSEEB plays an important role in maintaining an organised, transparent and efficient examination system for students studying in schools and pre-university institutions across Karnataka.

Examinations Conducted by KSEEB

The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board conducts important public examinations, including examinations for Class 10 (SSLC) and Class 12 / 2nd PUC students studying in recognised schools and colleges.

In addition to SSLC and higher secondary examinations, the Board is associated with several other examinations and educational programmes, including:

  • Karnataka Open School examinations
  • Diploma in Education examinations
  • Music examinations
  • Commerce-related examinations
  • Other examinations and assessments notified by the Board

The headquarters of KSEEB is located in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

KSEEB Divisional Offices

To effectively manage examination-related activities throughout the state, the Board operates through divisional offices located in different regions of Karnataka.

KSEEB has divisional offices in:

  • Bengaluru
  • Belagavi
  • Kalaburagi
  • Mysuru

The Bengaluru divisional office also functions from the Board’s headquarters at Malleshwaram, Bengaluru.

These regional offices assist in coordinating examinations, processing applications and handling various administrative and academic responsibilities within their respective jurisdictions.

Karnataka SSLC Examination

The Karnataka SSLC examination is one of the most important examinations conducted by KSEEB. Every year, approximately 8.5 lakh students appear for the SSLC examination, which is generally conducted during March and April.

Students who are unable to qualify in the main examination are provided with another opportunity through supplementary or subsequent examinations conducted by the Board. A significant number of students appear for these examinations each year.

Similar examination and assessment arrangements are also made for students appearing for Class 12 / 2nd PUC examinations in Karnataka.

Through these examination cycles, KSEEB provides students with opportunities to continue their education while maintaining prescribed academic and assessment standards.

Administration of Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board

The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board functions under the leadership of its Chairman and is supported by different administrative and examination-related departments.

The examination activities relating to Class 10 and Class 12 are managed through their respective directorates and specialised wings.

Information regarding subjects, examination procedures, notifications, circulars, academic guidelines and other examination-related matters is published through the official KSEEB website.

Administrative and Examination Wings

KSEEB has dedicated sections responsible for managing various academic and administrative functions. These include:

  • Examination administration
  • Accounts and financial matters
  • Tender-related activities
  • Evaluation of answer scripts
  • Verification and scrutiny of applications
  • Candidate records and examination data
  • Computer and digital services

The Board also maintains dedicated scrutiny sections for verifying SSLC examination applications received from educational districts across Karnataka.

The computer section provides technical and digital support to the different departments of the Board and has become increasingly important as examination services move towards online platforms.

Digitalisation of KSEEB Examination Services

KSEEB has introduced several digital initiatives to simplify examination procedures and provide faster services to students, schools and educational institutions.

From 2017–18 onwards, various examination-related activities have gradually been shifted to online systems.

Students and educational institutions can now access several services digitally, including:

  • Online examination registration
  • Admission ticket or hall ticket downloads
  • Online publication of examination results
  • Digital transmission of marks
  • SMS-based result information
  • Online student services
  • Marks card-related services

The introduction of digital systems has helped reduce manual processing and improve the accuracy and efficiency of examination-related activities.

The Board has also replaced several older processes, including the use of OMR-based systems for transmitting evaluation marks, with online platforms. This helps reduce delays and minimises errors that could occur because of incorrect or incomplete OMR shading.

Several important student services are available online through KSEEB. Depending on the applicable examination and academic year, these services may include:

  • Migration Certificate
  • Marks Card Verification
  • Duplicate or additional copies of marks cards
  • Failed marks cards from previous years

  • Retotalling
  • Revaluation
  • Examination-related certificates

Many of these services have been made available through digital initiatives such as the Pragathi-10 programme, helping students obtain academic documents without unnecessary visits to Board offices.

Students may also access eligible digital academic documents and marks sheets through the DigiLocker platform.
